Governor Dave Heineman presented the inaugural Governor’s 2009 Bioscience Award, created by Hastings College’s Tom Kreager, to Wayne L. Ryan, Ph.D., of Streck. “Wayne Ryan is an outstanding leader in the Nebraska bioscience industry,” stated Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman. “The dedication he has given to Streck has benefited the state of Nebraska in several ways, and I am proud to present this award to him.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Ryan has been awarded 58 patents, ranking him at the top of Nebraska inventors. His scientific observations and developmental efforts led to the formation of Streck in 1978. Currently, Streck is a world-class manufacturer of medical products and reagents; additionally, over 350 employees work at their facility in Omaha supporting manufacturing and biomedical research in Nebraska.

“The Annual Meeting was an excellent display of the advanced biotechnology we have in Nebraska,” stated Bio Nebraska executive director, Amy Recker. “The keynote presentations were of interest to all attendees and the inaugural Governor’s 2009 Bioscience Award ceremony showcased the strengths and opportunities of bioscience in Nebraska. There is tremendous economic potential for research institutions and businesses in the bioscience industry in Nebraska, which I believe will continue to become more prevalent in the years to come.”

Coordinated by Bio Nebraska, the 2009 meeting was the 2nd Bio Nebraska Annual Meeting. More information about upcoming events and membership can be found at www.bionebraska.org.
