Bio Nebraska and Monsanto Celebrate Successful Meeting

More than twenty-five Bio Nebraska members and friends enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Monsanto’s new Water Utilization Learning Center at a lunch meeting in Gothenburg on September 22, 2009.

“Monsanto is one of the leading bioscience companies in the world,” said Jim McClurg, Chairman of Bio Nebraska. “In Nebraska, they fund significant basic and applied research at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, conduct field trials across the state, and provide innovative products that support efficient production agriculture throughout the world.”

Senator John Wightman highlighted the importance of the agricultural research being done in Nebraska as a means to feed the world. Monsanto’s Gothenburg Center Manager, Chandler Mazour, provided an overview of the facility’s mission toward a holistic approach to agricultural research. Mike Bacon, Gothenburg Improvement Company provided insight into the importance of Gothenburg, Nebraska, as its location. After lunch, Monsanto scientist Safeer Hassan led the group on a virtual tour of the field research being done at the facility.
