Bio Nebraska and Pfizer Host 1st Collaborative Bio Innovation Conference (Omaha, NE; Tuesday, December 23, 2008) – Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association hosted a Bio Innovation Conference in partnership with Pfizer on Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Pfizer Global Manufacturing Facility in Lincoln, Nebraska. The event was open to members of the life sciences trade association and focused on biotechnological innovations within the state and beyond. “Bio Nebraska provides the opportunity for all of those involved in the life sciences to propel the activity within our state and individual companies. This event provides a forum for industry, government and academia to come together to discuss innovations making an impact in our industry,” stated Jim McClurg, PhD, chairman, Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association. “We were honored to have Governor Dave Heineman and the other keynote speakers address our audience.”
The Bio Innovation Conference was organized by Paul Plofchan, director, government relations of Pfizer Inc., in partnership with Amy Recker, executive director of Bio Nebraska. Keynote speakers included: Congressman Jeff Fortenberry “Bio Investment and Trade—A Federal Perspective”; Dan Martz, vice president, public affairs and communications, Pfizer Animal Health with an animal health update; Christine Smith, vice president, Pfizer Global Research and Development, Biotherapeutics Center of Emphasis “The Long Road to a New Medicine and the Value of Medical Innovation”; and remarks by Governor Dave Heineman.
