U.S. Chamber Awards Lincoln Chamber of Commerce with 5-Star Accreditation (March 3, 2009) Washington, D.C. – The United States Chamber of Commerce announced today that the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce has received the highest Accreditation possible for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures and positive impact on the community. The 5-Star Accreditation was awarded to the Lincoln Chamber of Commerce for the second time. The first honor was given to the Chamber in 2004. The Lincoln Chamber is one of 18 Chambers to receive the 5-star accreditation out of 6,936 chambers in the United States.
“Accreditation recognizes chambers for their high standards of practice, full accountability to members and steadfast commitment to the community,” said Thomas J. Donohue, President and CEO, U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “We applaud these organizations for advancing these principles of free enterprise.”
The U.S. Chamber Accreditation recognizes an organization for its quality programs, clear organizational procedures and being a catalyst for positive action in its community. To achieve accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs and technology. The extensive review can take from three to six months to complete.
“The Lincoln Chamber Board of Directors is committed to meeting the highest standards on behalf of Lincoln and its business community,” Lincoln Chamber of Commerce Chairman Steve Pella said. “Retaining the five-star rating exemplifies our commitment and performance.”
LCOC President Wendy Birdsall said the process was a priority of the organization.
“It is a strong statement to gain the recognition of your peers across the nation,” Birdsall said. “We feel very good about our efforts to make a positive impact on the community and maintain strong fiscal discipline and accountability to our membership. We are committed to making a difference.”
Local chambers are rated in four categories: Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars or 5-Stars. The final determination is made by the accrediting board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.
The Lincoln Chamber of Commerce is a business organization made up of 1,500 members committed to fostering a higher quality of life through business growth in Lincoln. |
