Bio Nebraska Seeks Nominations for 2010 Governor’s Bioscience Award

Winner to be announced at Annual Meeting in April


(February 18, 2010; Omaha, NE) – Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association announces the second annual Governor’s Bioscience Award will be presented by Governor Dave Heineman at the association’s annual meeting. The meeting will be held at the Embassy Suites at 12520 Westport Parkway in La Vista on April 15, 2010, starting at 4:00 p.m.

The 2010 Governor’s Bioscience Award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to the bioscience industry in Nebraska. Any individual who positively impacts the state’s bioscience industry through innovation, public policy, investment, business creation or leadership is eligible for the award. The nominee is not required to be a member of Bio Nebraska. Nomination forms are available at www.bionebraska.org and are due by March 20, 2010.

“We are honored to partner with Governor Heineman in presenting this award,” stated Amy Recker, executive director for Bio Nebraska Life Sciences Association. “The bioscience industry represents tremendous opportunity in Nebraska and this award will honor a dedicated individual who contributes to Nebraska’s strengths in animal and human health, crop production, biofuels and bioprocessing.”

The 2009 recipient of the Governor’s Bioscience Award was Wayne Ryan, Ph.D., of Streck. Dr. Ryan’s scientific observations and developmental efforts led to the formation of Streck in 1978. Currently, Streck is a world-class manufacturer of medical products and reagents, employing over 350 people at their facility in Omaha, Nebraska.
